The difficulty with moving couches also means that people will be selling perfectly good couches before their own moves for a decent price because they just want to get rid of it. This guide will serve as your roadmap as you navigate through this new, exciting lifestyle, assisting you in making your new apartment a reflection of the principles of minimalism. Couches area hard to move though, so I'd suggest getting one after you move and buying it from someone local. To support your journey towards minimalist living, we’ve crafted the ultimate minimalist apartment checklist. I personally don't like having a separate dining space because that feels too formal to me so I'd be okay with just a small couch and a coffee table and just pull up the desk chairs when entertaining more people. Necessities: trash&recycle bins, water kettle, microwave (again, not a cook), a chair cushion (aka old pillow) if you can only afford a cheap wooden one like me, a living/dining area <- for that last one, it'd be nice if you could combine the two to make it the general entertainment/togetherness area. Things I could've done without: the dresser, a tv (laptop works just fine), a nightstand (the desk drawers and shelf storage was good enough), too many storage cubes (cheaper than buying a shelving unit but all things in moderation) In the apartment I live in now I don't have the closet shelf so I use the bottom 2 drawers for clothes and the top drawer for toiletries that can't fit in my tiny bathroom. My closet had a mid-level wire-frame shelf in it that I would use to sit clothes that I couldn't hang up, so I rarely used my dresser for things other than miscellaneous storage and probably could've gotten rid of it then, but if your closet doesn't have that mid-level shelf and you can't instal one then I suggest having the dresser. The desk drawers kept the desk space clear of clutter. It was basic furniture but it was sturdy and served its purpose. When I lived in a studio by myself, my furniture consisted of a bed, desk with drawers, a chair, and a 3-drawer dresser. I'm a student, an artist, and I don't like cooking so I need a workspace and art supply storage, but I don't need much kitchen stuff. I also didn’t include trivial items such as toiletries because you most likely already have at right now, just pack them with you."Essential" is different for everyone, based on individual lifestyles. It’s fine, me and Jeff Bezos are gonna be fine if you do it. NOTE: Compare the prices with what’s available in the physical stores first if you want to be sure that you’re getting the best price for the product. Choose bold canopy bed frames like this cube-shaped one, add large square-shaped pillows, and incorporate strong abstract art that is block-shaped and linear. As the name says, this is a minimal college packing list, not everything you could possibly buy. Give your bedroom an architectural touch by incorporating strong lines and solid shapes into the design. You might need to buy more items, later on, depending on different factors but I believe that it’s better to do it this way rather than buying a bunch of stuff that you will never use. The items here are what I think you need when you first move into your dorm/apartment. This is because just because a cheap low-quality item can cost you even more than a better quality more expensive one in the long run. This doesn’t mean however that I picked the cheapest products, nope! I tried to balance quality and price. I spent a lot of time perfecting this list so that you get the best value for your money as much as I could. After all, a low-quality item may end up costing you more in the long run. This doesn’t mean that I’ve only included the cheapest products, but rather I’ve tried to balance quality and price. I understand that everyone’s needs are different, but I’ve spent a lot of time perfecting this list to ensure that you get the best value for your money. These blended elements enrich the space and make it more. That’s why I decided to create a simple and concise packing list that focuses on the essentials. The curving lamp, the round wool cushions, and the silk rectangular pillows create interest for the eye without complicating things. Welcome to my minimalist college packing list! As a college student myself, I’ve always found other college packing lists online to be overwhelming and filled with unnecessary items. DISCLAIMER: This page might include affiliate links!
